Biography

Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and College of Agriculture

PhD - Biological Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, University of California, Irvine

BA - Biological Science, University of California, Berkeley

Research Focus Areas:
- Transgenic plants for bioproduction of high-value complex proteins
- Protein processing and glycosylation
- Bioproduction of mucosally-delivered vaccines and vaccine adjuvants
- Molecular plant pathology and genetic engineering strategies for pathogen/parasite resistance

Dr. Cramer is internationally recognized as a leader and pioneer in plant transgenics for biopharmaceutical production. Research being done in her laboratory is targeting the efficacy of plant-based vaccines for nasal delivery to provide key technical and intellectual advances in the burgeoning areana of plant bioproduction. Dr. Cramer serves on the U.S. Department of Agriculture&s Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture and has been a major speaker at national and international venues including the International Conference on Molecular Farming and WHO Symposium on Plant Biotechnology and Human Health in the Developing World.

Dr. Cramer's philosophy of transitioning cutting-edge biotechnology into the commercial sector has led to her co-founding CropTech Corp. and Biodefense Technologies focused on tobacco-based manufacturing of human therapeutic proteins and vaccines. Her academic accomplishments include a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine, a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Salk Institute and Professor of Plant Pathology and Physiology at Virginia Tech prior to her appointment as Executive Director of the ABI at Arkansas State University.
