ABI group receives grant for "Biotech in a Box"
Dr. Cynthia Miller, College of Education (project director), Dr. Roger Buchanan, Department of Biology, and Dr. Maureen Dolan, Arkansas Biosciences Institute, have been awarded a grant for $99,147 to administer the "Biotech in a Box" project through the 2008-2009 No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part A grant program from the U.S. Department of Education and administered through the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. This project will involve two intensive graduate courses, training middle and high school science teachers (grades 7-12) in the areas of molecular and cellular biology using practical lab. Plans are currently to enroll 20-30 teachers per semester. "Biotech in a Box" will provide equipment and supplies for use by teachers seeking to introduce molecular and cellular concepts in their classrooms.
