Dr. Malathi Srivatsan, Molecular Biology, and Dr. Shivan Haran, Mechanical Engineering, will collaborate on a National Science Foundation (NSF) proposal, "Stream Computing for Research and Education in Science and Engineering." Dr. Kenji Yoshigoe of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) is the Principal Investigator (PI) and Dr. Srivatsan is one of the Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs). The NSF funding of $400,000 for this collaborative project will provide Dr. Srivatsan and Dr. Haran with multi-gigabit connections to stream large volumes of data in real time to a high-performance cluster at UALR. This system will enable collaborative research between researchers at UALR and Dr. Srivatsan to detect and analyze electrophysiological signals from neurons interacting with ligands, neurotransmitters, and nano materials; the system will also allow UALR researchers and Dr. Haran to analyze soil conditions and ground motions for earthquake-related applications.
