The Agriculture Education program at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro is a four year degree that is student centered. The focus of the program is to prepare outstanding future educators and leaders in the public and private sectors. The Agricultural Education program is structured around the needs of students and their career goals. Students in the program are required to take personal responsibility for their education to include involvement and participation in courses and extracurricular activities which are essential to learning and future career success. Formal and informal learning experiences are designed to enable students to successfully progress through the program encouraging academic and professional development as well as personal growth.
The Agriculture Education program at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro offers three areas of emphasis, 1) Teaching, 2) Communications, and 3) Agricultural Mechanization. Even though a majority of the students in the major pursue the teaching option, the overall program’s job placement rate after graduation is greater than 90 percent within the teaching field with an average salary range for beginning teachers in Agricultural Sciences and Technology of $28,000 to $35,000, depending on region. The remaining program graduates often choose to return to the university to pursue a graduate degree, or are actively employed in other areas such as cooperative extension education, high school teaching (in other related subject areas such as science, financial institutions), or agriculturally related business and industry. Students graduating from the program are in high demand due to the acquired skills related to communications, leadership, and a diverse knowledge base.
