The New Ground Golf Tournament continues to be the major fundraiser for the College of Agriculture each year. Begun in 2004 and played each spring at Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, the New Ground Tournament raises money for the Dean’s Discretionary Fund. The Discretionary Fund is the primary support for important student educational activities outside the classroom. Student field trips and student participation in annual conferences are funded directly from the proceeds of the New Ground Golf Tournament.
The tournament is a 4-person scramble. Individuals or teams may sign up to play, and organizations may sponsor at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Levels. A $10,000 grand prize for a hole-in-one has been offered every year, and while no one had won that prize yet, lesser prizes are taken home by skilled teams each spring.
