Technology Degrees
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Technology offers five emphasis areas: 1) Technical Studies, 2) Technology Management, 3) CADD, 4) Computer System, and 5) Manufacturing - Industrial Technology. Each program will be tailored to meet the needs of the career specifications designated by the student. The Technical Studies option is designed to permit the student to tailor a program in accordance with his/her specific interests for which a traditional baccalaureate degree is not attainable. Students who have successfully completed some of the degree requirements in an occupational environment may continue their education under this educational umbrella.
Technology Management option is designed to prepare a student to apply theories, perceptions, and principles established in the humanities and social and behavioral sciences, as well as sound business practices in a technology-oriented environment. Graduates with this emphasis will serve as liaison between manufacturing or industrial production and the administrators of a company. Consequently, a sound understanding of the basic principles of business, personnel management, and management techniques will be mandatory.
Manufacturing-Industrial Technology option is focused to develop and train qualified personnel capable of directing the production, distribution, and management of products and services. The student, upon completion of the program, will have the ability to apply the principles of mathematical and physical sciences as related to technology, in the manufacturing industrial setting.
Computer Aided Drafting and Design option is focused to develop and train qualified personnel capable of designing in industry for mechanical, computer aided manufacturing, and construction fields. Students are trained in in Autocad, SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, Pro/E, and Mastercam, giving students the ability to work in all areas of manufacturing utilizing design production of manufacturing parts, CNC tools (Computer Numerical Control), and house design.
Computer Systems option has been tailored to meet the needs of industry in Cisco applications career specifications. (The courses are tied to our 2+2 programs distance education programs.)
Technical Studies option is designed to permit the student to tailor a program in accordance with his/her specific interests for which a traditional baccalaureate degree is not attainable. One emphasis area available under this option is food technology and science, which provides a baccalaureate route for workforce development in the food processing industry.
BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE
The Bachelor of Applied Science degree is designed to provide a four-year degree in a true 2+2 manner for students who already have an Associate of Applied Science degree and are ready to take on more technical responsibility. This is a popular option for workforce development and advancement.
There is a new option now available in Bachelor of Applied Science with a Focus Study in Renewable Energy Technology
Minor in Renewable Energy Technology
ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE
The Associate in Science degree with a major in Technology (Manufacturing, CADD, Management, and CISCO) will allow the student to meet the general education requirements, the degree preconditions, and utilize the opportunities to exercise work experience or prior education that may contribute to this degree option.
The program allows students to participate in a two-year program to meet the needs of industry while preserving the option of earning a baccalaureate degree in the future. It permits industry to meet its educational and training requirements when a four-year degree is not warranted. The student must complete a minimum of 62 credit-hours of work and must adhere to all policies established by the university. Flexibility is provided through counseling and the review of prior experience (see PLA below) which may be substituted for formal college credit.
PLA – PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT
We have a powerful PLA program that can be incorporated into each of the degrees, options, or emphasis areas offered in Technology. This is a mechanism to grant college credit for technical certificates earned, professional exams taken, and other forms of documented training relevant to the technical skills required within an option or emphasis area. The student pays a fee for PLA consideration, provides adequate documentation of professional training, and defends their technical competence in the required field before a committee. Up to 15 credits of PLA may be applied towards the A.S or A.A.S. degree, and up to 30 credits of PLA may be applied towards the B.S. or B.A.S. degree, which provides both a faster and a less expensive route to the degree for those students who have qualified for PLA credits. This is a popular option for workforce development.
