"Embrace Our Past; Imagine Our Future"

Embrace; Imagine

The Centennial Logo, designed by the ASU Creative Services Department, reflects the Centennial Celebration theme, "Embrace Our Past; Imagine Our Future."  Thus, the theme focuses attention on the primary goal of our celebration: to develop special projects and activities that commemorate our shared heritage and recognize past achievements as a bridge to future achievements that we can only imagine.

Both past and the future are embodied in the Memorial Arch that stands in the center of campus. Now the oldest structure on campus, this arch was donated by members of the 1927 Training School Class who wrote:

Arch 1927

In the structure we have tried to express in imperishable form our love for our school, and pleasant school time, memories that will linger in our hearts throughout life; and our natural human longing that we, the class of 1927, may not be entirely forgotten, but may be recalled to the minds of the future students who enter beneath our archway.

The arch, made of concrete, stands 13 feet high and 10 feet wide.  It is made of two columns each 16 x 20 inches, resting on a base 24 x 28 inches, sloping up to 20x24 inches, on this base is inlaid the words, "Class of '27."

The Memorial Arch was re-landscaped during the celebration with financial support from the ASU Faculty Women's Club. Assistance also was provided by the Facilities Management Department and the Centennial Celebration Commission.
