What is Arkansas Children's Week?
Every April the
Arkansas DHS Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education
sponsors Arkansas Children’s Week (ACW). The purpose of ACW is to
focus attention on the achievements and needs of Arkansas children
and their families.
Although the
theme for Arkansas Children’s Week changes from year to year, there
are some well-established ACW traditions.
Publication of a staff resource book related to the
theme
Recent titles have been “Making 1st
Experiences Count”, “Creating Connections for Learning”, and “All
Aboard the Body and Mind Express”. A copy of the book is mailed to
all licensed and registered child care facilities.

Professional development opportunities
During March, staff workshops that expand the
theme are offered at more than 20 locations around the
state.
T-shirts for children and adults
All child care programs have the opportunity to
purchase low-cost t-shirts featuring the ACW logo and
theme.
Local celebration
activities
A wide variety of special events are planned by
individual programs, by programs within a city, and by regional
groups. Activities include family festivals, read-a-thons,
parades, and children’s day at the local shopping mall.
