What
is the Child Care Specialist Certificate?
The Child Care Specialist
Certificate includes three unique types of training: Child
Development, Specialist Training, and Professional Development.
Child Development
Child Development will consist of 20 hours
of Child Develoment offered in the form of five (5) 4-hour
modules:
- Child Development: The
Basics
- Physical Health, Safety,
Fitness, and Well-Being
- Growing in Emotional,
Social, and Moral Competence
- The Young Child's Unique
Ways of Thinking and Learning
- Learning to Talk-Talking to
Learn
Specialist Training
Specialist Training will consist of 20 hours of
training in one of the specialty areas. Specialty will be
presented in five (5) 4-hour modules.
You may earn a Certificate in one of the four different
areas:
- Infant/Toddler addresses children age birth
through two years (20 hours).
- Preschool addresses children age three through
five years (20 hours).
- Family Day Care addresses children cared for in
a licensed family day care home (20 hours).
- School-Age addresses children age six through
thirteen years (20 hours).
Professional Development
Professional Development will consist of 20
flexible hours participating in pre-approved training
opportunities such as attending meetings sponsored by early
childhood professional organizations and other professional
events.
After participants have completed all training they
will receive a Specialist Certificate for 60 clock hours and will be
eligible to receive 6 CEU's.
Who Should Seek a Child Care
Specialist Certificate?
The Child Care Specialist Certificate is a
great beginning step toward continued professional development. The
specialist training provides an opportunity to meet minimum
licensing requirements and to focus your training in a specialist
area.
The Child Care Specialist Certificate will benefit a
teacher or caregiver who:
- Wants to gain more knowledge, information, and
ideas about a certain age group.
- Wants to be recognized for their specialized
knowledge and skills.
- Is beginning to interact with an age group with
whom they have had limited experience.
How do you get started?
To take the beginning step toward continued
professional development by earning the Child Care Specialist
Certificate, register online for scheduled Child Development
training or the Specialist training of your choice at ASU
