Congradulations to these two graduate students for successfully defending their MA in Criminal Justice theses:

  • Dominique White, We’re Still Not There Yet: The Continued Struggle for Black Gay Men to Live Openly in Arkansas and Tennessee
  • Hillarie Whitehorn, Exploring the Relationship between Obesity and the Prevalence of Food Deserts in Arkansas

 

We at CSG would like to offer congratulations to our following faculty:

  • Dr. Amanda Coleman for receiving the You Made A Difference Award in Fall 2011.
  • Dr. Monika Ulrich for being selected as a finalist for the Profession Service Award 2012
  • Dr. Larry Salinger for being selected as a finalist for the Advising Profession Excellence Award 2012.
  • Dr. Troy Adams and Dr. Monika Ulrich for winning "Friends of Diversity" awards on April 11, 2012.

 

An essay written by Monika Ulrich, "Using Drunk Driving Deaths to Understand Sexual Assault," was the featured essay in TRAILS: Teaching Resources and Innovations Library for Sociology in October, 2011. The link to review this essay is http://trails.asanet.org/Pages/Resource.aspx?ResourceID=12561

At the end of the Spring 2011 semester, Dr. Kevin Shafer and Dr. Michael Botts left CSG for other positions. We all wish them the best of luck!

In January, 2011, Dr. Gretchen Hill became the Interim Chair for CSG.

Departmental Newsletter

New Department Programs
The department has two new programs. The first is an interdisciplinary B.S. in Forensic Science which is a joint effort between Criminology, Chemistry, and Biology. This program will prepare students for employment as crime scene investigators and to work in state crime labs

The second program is a M.A. in Criminal Justice which while housed in the department is a joint effort between the Department and the Department of Political Science, MPA program.

New Minor
The department is participating in a new interdisciplinary minor in Homeland Security and Disaster Preparedness. This minor is a joint effort between the Department, Nursing, Social Work, Political Science, and Radio-TV.
