CHAIR'S MESSAGE

WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND PHILOSOPHY WEBSITE!

We are the department for those who like to read and who love ideas. We are the department for those who love to write. If you value arguing over ideas because you believe them to be important, we are the department for you. Are you interested in teaching Philosophy or English? If so, check out our department. We are also the department for those who want to be ready for Law School or those thinking about a religious occupation.

Our name, Department of English and Philosophy, suggests we have only two subjects-- English and Philosophy. In reality we represent many other areas. We house the university's Folklore faculty as well as its Creative Writers. In addition to degrees in English and in Philosophy, we have minors in many areas such as Folklore, Religious Studies, and Cognitive Science.

Because college should be fun, we sponsor a Literature Club and a Philosophy Club. Additionally, department students edit and publish two literary magazines featuring the work of ASU students.
