English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate & Endorsement Program

The Department of World Languages & Cultures has recently been approved to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate Program and English as a Second Language (ESL) Licensure Endorsement Program. The purpose of these programs is to prepare current teachers and teachers-to-be to teach English as a second language in secondary schools in the US or at institutions abroad. The program focuses on developing a knowledge base related to current and traditional methods of second language instruction, designing and delivering effective language and culture instruction for all students in a productive learning environment, integrating technology and professional standards into curriculum and instruction, and developing professionally.

The English as a Second Language Certificate Program is designed for individuals seeking to teach abroad or at institutions that DOES NOT require a licensure endorsement from the Arkansas Department of Education. This ESL Certificate provides non-teacher education students the opportunity to obtain a certificate from Arkansas State University for teaching English to speakers of other languages. You can find the requirements for obtaining this ESL Certificate by following the link above.

The English as a Second Language Licensure Endorsement Program is for students admitted into the Teacher Education Program at ASU or for current practicing teachers who hold a current teaching license. This program will provide them with the opportunity to obtain an additional licensure endorsement to teach English to speakers of other languages at K-12 levels. You can find the requirements for obtaining this ESL Licensure Endorsement by following the link above.
