STUDY ABROAD

"Bringing the world to ASU, and taking ASU to the world"

globe and flags

Study Abroad is an academic experience outside the US in which you interact with persons of another culture and participate in programs that are not available to you at ASU. Most study abroad programs allow you to continue working on your current degree program while you are overseas.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures encourages all language minors and majors to include study abroad in their academic study plan. ASU has study abroad opportunities for every qualified student. Study abroad can last from a few weeks to an academic year. Most summer or short term programs have no or only basic language requirements (0-2 semesters); however, semester and year programs tend to require completion of Intermediate I or II prior to study abroad. In addition to courses at the target language, most international host institutions also offer a variety of interdisciplinary courses in English. Students work with both their academic advisor and ASU’s Study Abroad Advisor to ensure that credits transfer back to ASU.

International Study Opportunities through ASU

ASU offers students a variety of options for study abroad ranging from spring break study tours to summer or semester terms abroad. Short-term programs are led by ASU faculty and provide a focused learning experience in a foreign country. Exchange programs for the Semester or year provide more in-depth experiences in another culture. Below is a list of programs offered through ASU.

If ASU students desire to study in a location or field not covered by the ASU study abroad options, they may elect to participate in a program offered by another university or organization. The Office of International Programs assists students in identifying and applying to the program, maintaining their ASU status while away, and providing information for securing financial aid where appropriate. Opportunities include placement in a wide range of countries as can be seen below.
ASU has developed relationships with universities in the countries below which allow ASU students to attend their institution for ASU tuition. In addition, ASU is a member of ISEP which provides summer, semester and year opportunities at additional sites across the globe. Please see an advisor at the Department of World Languages and Cultures to determine which program is right for you.
