2009 Fall Conference Arkansas State University-Model United Nations The Arkansas State University-Model United Nations will host its annual Fall High School Conference on Friday October 10th and Saturday October 11th, 2008 in historic Wilson Hall on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. This year's conference will include three Security Councils, two of which will be working from the same topic list, but acting independently of each other. The third Security Council will be an Historical one set in 1990-1991. Having three Security Councils will allow more students to participate in these elite bodies. Topics for the Security Councils are: Security Council Topics I. The Situation in Georgia II. Republic of Chad and the Central African Republic - UN Security Council action on the Republic of Chad and the Central African Republic and how conflict in neighboring Darfur affects the two countries. III. Iran Historical Security Council: 1990-1991 [including Liberian civil war and Iraq invasion of Kuwait] ICJ cases: · Argentina v. Uruguay (Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay) Fees will be $10.00 per delegation and $7.00 per delegate; Friday night dinner fee $7.00. FALL 2008 COUNTRIES 1. Another aspect of this year's conference will be the International Press Delegation which will allow students with an interest in journalism and photojournalism to work with college students to cover the activities of the conference and produce two newsletters while in attendance. Openings are available for at least four journalists and one photo journalist to participate. Cost will be $7.00 per journalist.
