Admission Requirements

 

  • Students must be admitted to Arkansas State University (see University admission policy and procedures at http://admissions.astate.edu )  
  • Current unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in the state of Arkansas

  • Work experience as RN prior to enrollment in 4000 level nursing courses (See explanation below)

  • Overall GPA of 2.5

  • Completion of all required science, math and English courses with a "C" or better in each course

  • Completion of required general education and support courses.

 

Work Experience Requirements:

Applicants must have work experience prior to enrolling in the 4000 level courses and accumulate 1000 hours of recent work experience as an RN prior to enrolling in NRSP 4793 RN-BSN Capstone Course.  Proof of the 1000 hours must be provided as a pre-requisite for the NRSP 4793 RN-BSN Capstone Course.  For any questions concerning this information, applicants are encouraged to see a RN-BSN nursing advisor, contact the School of Nursing for an appointment at (870) 972-3074. ASU participates in the statewide articulation program for RNs seeking a BSN degree.

NOTE: Students meeting the above requirements will be admitted on space availability.   


Before the student’s first clinical course can begin, the student must have:

  1. A current unencumbered Arkansas RN nursing license

  2. Professional liability insurance (minimum: $1,000,000/3,000,000 coverage)

  3. Current CPR certification

  4. Acceptable immunization status (TB skin test, current Tetanus, Hep-B series)
