Scholarships: Goff

Lloyd L. and June S. Goff Scholarship

Mr. Goff served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in the Wynne and Brinkley school districts, then became a principal and later superintendent in the Jonesboro Public Schools. After his retirement from Jonesboro in 1960, Mr. Goff was appointed assistant professor of education and psychology at Arkansas State, where he served for nine years.

Mrs. Goff completed her education degree at Arkansas State in 1957 and then taught elementary students for several years at East Elementary School in Jonesboro. She was also very involved in church and community activities while she lived in Jonesboro.

The children of the late Lloyd L. and June S. Goff knew that their parents placed special emphasis on education throughout their life's work. The Lloyd L. and June S. Goff Scholarship was endowed following their parents' death in 1990. It is the desire of the donors to assist in improving math and science education in the state by providing educational opportunities to outstanding recipients who plan to remain and teach in Arkansas upon graduation.

The Lloyd L. and June S. Goff Scholarship is awarded in the fall semester to a full-time junior or senior student with a 3.0 overall G.P.A. and an interest in pursuing a career in teaching at the secondary level. If funds are available and the fall recipient is not eligible to receive the scholarship both fall and spring semesters, an application will be available in the fall to choose a spring recipient. Preference will be given to Arkansas residents majoring in science or math education.

Applications and rater forms are due into the Professional Education Programs office each spring.
