Admission Requirements

Admission to the Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) program requires a two step process: (1) admission to the Arkansas State University (ASU) Graduate School, and (2) admission to the MRC program. Applicants are advised to complete the two steps simultaneously. Please note that admission to the Graduate School does not guarantee admission to the MRC program.

Potential applicants are encouraged to visit with the MRC program's faculty prior to beginning the application process (Sharon Davis).

Admission Basics

Step 1: U.S. Citizen - Graduate School admission

1. Review the Graduate School's admission criteria.

2. Submit the following to the Graduate School:

• Graduate School's admission form;
• Application fee, non-refundable (The application fee is waived for applicants who are verified McNair Scholars);
• Immunization records;
• Selective service documentation, if a U.S. Citizen; and
• Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate level academic activities.

Step 1: International Citizen - Graduate School admission

1. Review the Graduate School's admission criteria.

2. Review the International Students' website regarding admission as a graduate student

3. Submit the following to the Graduate School at least three (3) months prior to the semester for which you are requesting admission:

• Graduate School's admission form;
• Application fee, nonrefundable; Payment can be made via a U.S. bank-drawn check or credit card;
• Proof of immunization required by the State of Arkansas;
• Official transcripts of all school, college, university academic activities. Official transcripts must indicate that applicant's academic preparation is equivalent to a U.S. institution's four-year bachelor's degree from an institution of the United States and appropriate academic achievement.
• Official bank/financial statement; and
• Official score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if a degree has not be earned from an American institution, or the native language is English. If needed, the applicant must have score 550 or higher on the paper version or 213 on the computer version of the exam.

Step 2: MRC program admission

1. Review the MRC program's admission criteria in the Graduate School Bulletin.

2. Submit the following MRC program-specific required documents directly to the Graduate School:

• MRC program's application form;
• An acceptable Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score (The Testing Center on the ASU campus administers the GRE examination on a periodic basis. Contact the Testing Center at [870] 972-2038, or visit http://testing.astate.edu/ for dates and times of GRE administration; If the Testing Center is unable to accommodate your preferred timeframe, check with GRE officials at http://www.gre.org regarding other accessible sites);
• Three recommendation letters; and
• A brief (i.e., 2-4 pages or more, double-spaced, 12 point font), typewritten personal statement outlining your background, interests in the MRC program, and professional goals.
