Qualifications for receiving Scholarship:

Incoming ASU Freshman, who has graduated from Buffalo Island Central High and plans to pursue a field of study in elementary or secondary education

First preference will be given to students from Monette or Leachville, Arkansas. If there are no qualified students from those areas, the scholarship may then be awarded to a student from Craighead County who otherwise qualifies for the award.

In the even that Buffalo Island Central High School either merges with another institution or ceases to operate, the scholarship may be awarded to students from Monette or Leachville who otherwise qualify for the award.

Financial need and determination of strong moral character

Applicant must provide a written essay to Scholarship Committee

Qualifications for Maintaining Scholarship:

Recipients are eligible to reapply for consideration provided that they have continued in the course of study in elementary or secondary education and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent.

Selection Made By:

Scholarship Committee comprised of the guidance counselor, senor class sponsor and media specialist from Buffalo Island Central High School; a representative of the ASU Office of Financial Aid; and Steve Watkins, or his designee, who will serve informally and in an advisory capacity. Determination will be based upon the Committee's evaluation of a written essay and subsequent personal interview.
