Mission

Our mission is to serve as advisor to the president on strategic planning, resource allocations, and budgeting.  The University Planning Committee (UPC) includes leaders throughout the University.  Each member represents a constituent group including faculty, staff, and students.  The members meet with these groups to discuss budgeting issues that will impact that group.  The members bring forth valuable information and new ideas from these groups.  Through this formal process, all constituents can influence the direction of the University.  Members address priorities and make recommendations to the UPC.  UPC discussions range from visionary ideas to day-to-day operational needs.  Each UPC member plays a unique role in these discussions.  Diversity of UPC members and involvement of employees and visitors, through open forum meetings, creates balanced and enhanced feedback.

The Chancellor and Vice Chancellors add vision to the strategic plan, view the university as a whole, set goals and objectives for accomplishing the ASU mission, and determine direction of university growth.  The Deans represent the University at the College level and bring forth academic concerns which are policy development, curricula, faculty salaries, and faculty equity.  The Chairs represent the University at the academic department level and reinforce the Deans position.  They address issues that deal with faculty salaries, promotions, equity, classroom needs, staffing, and technology.  The Faculty Senate representative addresses the faculty’s interest in academic programs, research, professional activities, salary and equity issues, and other academic concerns.  The Staff Senate representative brings forth strategic staff issues such as salaries, benefits, promotion, training and development, staff equity, and other staff related issues.  The Student representative provides the student body an opportunity to form a partnership with the administration, faculty, and staff in determining direction for the university, be aware of the university’s needs and create a sense of involvement and commitment to the continued growth of the university, and through involvement, the UPC can address student issues such as “customer satisfaction” with academic programs, facilities, equipment, student activities, student organizations, and other student-related programs.
