Facilities Management Training Institute (FMTI)
The Facilities Management Training Institute (FMTI) is the FM training modules platform that uses Blackboard to deliver content and tools that enhance the teaching and learning environment for Facilities Management staff.
The implementation of online training increases the learning capacity for individuals, teams and collectively as a division. FMTI provides the following benefits to Facilities Management:
• Adds flexibility to training modules
• Improves training efficiency and effectiveness
• Improves course learning retention
• Enhances the communication methods with staff
Professional Development & Training (PD&T) Committee Update:
The committee is charged with focusing on the development of training modules for departmental and individual positions, reviewing training techniques and effective delivery methods, and training resource availability.
An addition focusing on guidelines related to the minimum/maximum hours of training an employee should have during a year have been added and approved to the Training and Development FMOP. The addition to the policy reads as follows:
Types of Training:
There are four types of training. Employees are encouraged to complete a recommended minimum of 40 hours per year, to a recommended maximum of 120 hours per year in any combination of the four training types. Employees should seek guidance and approval from their supervisor on the training types. The four types of training are listed below:
1. New Employee Orientation (NEO)
2. Mandatory Training established by Law/Policy (Federal, State, City or University)
3. Mandatory Training by Department
4. Elective/Optional Training
The committee has also been looking at what trainings are needed in each department. Finally, the members have been researching the purchase of a software system dedicated to training tracking.
