Choirs

The Arkansas State University Concert Choir has long been known in the southern United States for choral excellence. For 33 years under the direction of the late Mr. Alfred R. Skoog, former Director of Choral Activities, the Male Chorus, Female Chorus and Concert Choir were presented on state and national convention programs, at Lincoln Center and on international tours. Under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, Director of Choral Activities since 1997, the choirs made their first appearance in Carnegie Hall in March 2000. The Concert Choir and University Singers have recently sung with professional orchestras from Little Rock, Memphis, New York, and Poland.

In March 2006 the Concert Choir traveled to Eastern Europe and performed the Mozart Requiem in Krakow, Poland, with the Orchestra of the Krakow Opera, and the Men’s Choir performed by invitation at the Southwest American Choral Directors Association Convention, in St. Louis. The University Singers appeared in Carnegie Hall in March 2004 and January 2008, and presented Handel’s MESSIAH with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in March 2008. A second European tour, this time to Rome and Florence, Italy, was enjoyed in spring 2010.

The Chamber Singers, a 16-voice group auditioned from the membership of the Concert Choir, meets in the fall semester, and presents the annual Madrigal Feaste, bringing in the Christmas season with fanfares, madrigals, carols, and dance. The A-State Delta Vox vocal jazz ensemble is the newest vocal group on campus.  They perform a cappella and accompanied vocal jazz arrangements in concerts and educational performances.
