OVERVIEW OF THE GRADUATE ADMISSION PROCESS

These are basic steps for applying to a degree program (master’s, specialist or doctoral). Your materials will be reviewed by both the Office of the Graduate School and the degree program to which you’ve applied.

1. Submission of Application Materials
Closely observe the deadline and required materials set by your academic program of interest, including any additional documents requested of students who are seeking departmental funding through assistantships or fellowships. Complete the application and fax, e-mail or mail any materials that could not be submitted online
2. Review by the Academic Program
The admissions committee for each academic program decides who will be accepted, based on their eligibility requirements. During this process, the committee will review all documents submitted in the application packet and will make their decisions based on eligibility.
3. Final Review by the Graduate School
The Graduate School receives the academic program’s recommendation and completes a final review of your file, checking to make sure you meet the minimum requirements listed below.
4. Admission
If you are accepted into the degree program to which you applied, Graduate Admissions will admit you to the University and send you your official letter. Be sure to check with your advisor you have been assigned to in order to be able to register for the semester.

GENERAL DOCUMENTS NEEDED IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS
(please consult the graduate catalog for more specific admission requirements for each major)

  1. A completed copy of this application form accompanied by the appropriate application fee. (There are separate application forms for the doctoral programs and some of our other programs as noted on the departments websites.)
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended since leaving high school. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the institutions previous attended. If you are a graduate of ASU, we will be obtain your transcript for you.
  3. All students are required to present written documentation of measles, mumps and rubella immunization. This immunization must have been received after the first birthday and after January 1, 1968.
  4. Arkansas law requires that in order to be eligible for enrollment at a public institution of higher learning an applicant who is a U.S. citizen must be registered or be exempt from registration with the selective service system. A form affirming registration is also required for admission to Graduate School and is available at the Graduate School.
  5. Application materials become the property of the university and may not be returned to the applicant or forwarded to other institutions.
  6. If a standardized test is required for your major, you may contact the Testing Center at Arkansas State University to make the necessary arrangements for testing. The telephone number is 870-972-2038.
