Program Description
The Specialist in Reading is a 30-33 hour program offering professional educators an opportunity to expand their knowledge on reading instruction and literacy leadership beyond the Master’s level, and is aligned with the International Reading Association standards. Students work with a graduate faculty advisor in the Department of Teacher Education to develop specialized programs of study.
Two tracks are available:
Track 1 – Literacy Leadership: Advanced Perspectives is designed for students who already hold a Master’s Degree in Reading
Track 2 – Literacy Leadership: Professional Practice is designed for students who have a Master’s degree in another education field
Admission Requirements
Students interested in pursuing the Specialist in Education with a Major in Reading must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School, hold a valid teaching license, and have a Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
