 I came to Arkansas State University in 1978 as an Assistant Professor of Journalism after receiving my Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University and quickly advanced to the rank of Professor. I teach research techniques in journalism, mass communication and society, and public relations. I am an active member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and the journalism honor society of Kappa Tau Alpha. I have served at ASU as Acting Dean of the Graduate School and College of Communications. I am also a Founding Board Member of the University Teaching and Learning Center (UTLC) at ASU, a faculty senate initiative to introduce diverse instructional technologies and strategies to ASU.

While attending Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, Rebecca major hopped from Business to Journalism during her first couple of semesters. After deciding that she wanted to be a lawyer, she found her true home as a Political Science major with a Philosophy minor. In her senior year at Truman she had a revelation that she wanted to work at a college for the rest of her life (which is exactly what she has done) and she applied to graduate school. After receiving her master's degree in Counseling and Higher Education Administration she has worked at Florida State University, the University of Kansas, Temple University, and currently loves working in The Honors College at ASU.


Rebecca is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). She has presented at the organization's annual conference on a variety of topics, including honors recruiting, empowering honors students and honors living-learning communities. Her passion is working with honors students and helping them reach their academic and personal goals.


Rebecca originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri and is privately known as the personal pastry chef to her family and friends. Rebecca has been married to Dr. Timothy Oliver (who is the Director of Bands at ASU) for 11 years and they have two adorable children, Benjamin (7 years old) and Gwendolyn (3 years old).

 My name is Robin Parks and I started working as the Honors secretary in the fall of 2001. I have worked at ASU since I started school here in 1987. I have a son, Christopher; if you're curious to see what he looks like, stop by the office - like any proud mamma, I have pictures of him at my desk! My main hobbies are reading and crochet. I also enjoy surfing the web, doing word puzzles of all sorts (except for logic puzzles; I hate them!) , and I like to dabble in all kinds of craft projects.
