Honors Living-Learning Community

Honors Living-Learning Community

The Honors College Residence Hall, opening in August 2009, will be a living-learning community in the truest sense. The three separate residential buildings and the Honors classroom that comprise this community will create a distinct sense of identity for the Honors students chosen to live there. Both upperclass and first-year students living in the Honors Hall will be active participants in The Honors College and in their Honors residential community. The opportunities for academic, co-curricular, and residential involvement endow these students with an awareness of their collective contribution to the entire Arkansas State community.

Honors residential activities will be a model for collaboration as the Division of Student Affairs and Residence Life team with students, faculty and professionals from The Honors College to offer innovative programming. In addition to the Honors courses that are the heart and soul of the Honors experience, additional academic, cultural, and social events will provide a well-rounded experience for the students living and learning in this unique venue.

The state-of-the-art classroom facility will be the first of its type in a residential setting on the ASU-Jonesboro campus. Honors classes, special events and Honors College Association (HCA) student meetings will be conveniently held steps away from the residence hall that Honors students will call “home.” Students will also be able to take advantage of study lounges in each building, social gathering areas, an advising office, and a courtyard that connects the entire community.

I am going to apply to ASU and I want to be in The Honors College. How do I get to live in the new Honors Living-Learning Community?

Follow these steps:
1. Submit all documents necessary for admission and be formally admitted to ASU. A listing of all the documents necessary can be found at the ASU Admissions Website.
2. After you are admitted to ASU, your application will be automatically screened for admission to The Honors College. Students who meet the NEW Honors admission criteria of 27 or higher composite ACT and 3.50 or higher high school GPA will be automatically admitted to The Honors College.
3. After you have been formally admitted to The Honors College, a congratulatory welcome letter confirming your admission to Honors will be mailed on or about December 1, 2008. These letters will continue to go out on a rolling basis.
4. Pay your $100.00 housing deposit and complete the Residence Life Application as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2009. Housing assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis according to the date of deposit. Please note that preference is not given to students based upon their scholarship status. The housing assignment process will occur in April 2009.
5. Be sure to check “Honors Hall” in the Room/Hall Preference portion of your Residence Life application. This is your indication that you wish to live in the Honors Living-Learning Community.

For more information and details about the Housing assignment process, please open the following PDF document: Honors Living-Learning Community Assignment Process.
