Research & Instruction

Research and Information Assistance
Assistance on library use and information retrieval is provided by Research & Information Librarians and staff. You may ask questions in person at the information desk, over the phone at (870) 972-3208, or email a Librarian. You may also schedule a personal consultation with a Librarian for more in-depth research needs. Contact the Research & Information Desk at (870) 972-3208 to schedule a personal consultation. You will find more information about Research Assistance at the Research and Information Services web page.

Library Instruction, Orientation and Tours Instruction Librarians work with instructors to provide customized library and information literacy instruction for courses. These sessions generally cover research skills, using the library catalog and databases, evaluating information found from all sources including the web, and using reference books and print resources. The sessions can be held in the Library's classrooms or in other locations.

Instruction Librarians are available to assist with you to create one or more library instruction sessions that will be tailored to meet the specific curriculum of your course. These sessions are most effective when tied to a specific library-related assignment. Librarians will be happy to work with you to develop these assignments.

Please note that the number of Librarians available and classroom spaces are limited, so please schedule your sessions as early as possible. We also ask that you be present during the library instruction, as the best learning experience for students comes from the collaboration between instructor and Librarian.

To schedule a session, contact Robin Payne or call the Research & Information Desk at (870) 972-3208.

Library Materials

Borrowing Privileges
Faculty may check out 50 materials at a time for the length of one semester. Periodicals may be checked out for 24 hours. If you place a hold on a material, you will be notified when it is returned and it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk. If you recall a book, the patron who currently has the book checked-out will be given a new due date and the book will be held for you at the Circulation Desk.

Course Reserves
Materials needed by an entire class my be placed on reserve for one hour, two hours or twenty-four hours. The reserve collection is kept at the Circulation Desk and you can determine if you would like students to be allowed to take the materials out of the library or if they must only be used in the library.
To place materials on Reserve, bring the Reserve materials to the Circulation Desk. You will need to fill out a Reserve Request form. Faculty may print out a copy of the reserve form by clicking one of the links below:
Reserve Form (Word document) |  Reserve Form (.PDF file)

Please note that you must bring your material to be placed on reserve to the library along with the form.

Materials that are photocopied should comply with copyright laws. For more information on Course Reserves please see the Circulation Department's website.

Print journals published prior to 1980 are available for use via retrieval from storage, should the article you require not be available online. To request articles from these journals please submit an Online Journal Retrieval Form, available on our information page about the retrieval process.

If a specific range of volumes is needed for class or research purposes they can be retrieved and placed on browsable shelves for up to one semester. For more information, or to place such a request, please see the Retrieval of Pre-1980 Journals in Storage page above for information on who to contact.

Requesting Materials
Requests for materials can be made by any faculty member via the online request form. If you have questions regarding materials requests you can reach the Acquisitions Department by calling (870) 972-3077. The department's hours are 7:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday.

If there is an item that you need quickly, please state the time frame within which you need it. The quicker it comes, the more it costs, so please take that into consideration. We will contact you when your rush order arrives.

Each academic department is allocated money from the library's budget. When your requests are ordered, we will use money from your departmental allocation to purchase the material. Requests for expensive materials or serials may be dependent upon approval from the Department Chair or Departmental Library Representative.
