MILITARY SCIENCE AND LEADERSHIP III (MSL III)
Class: The MSL III course is required for all cadets in order to commission as an Army Officer. Completion of MSL I, MSL II, and Leadership Training Course is required for all Cadets who have not completed basic training. Cadets must have a minimum of 60 credit hours in order to enroll in MSL III. In this year cadets will learn tactical leadership including patrolling and squad combat operations. They will become fluent in operations orders and troop leading procedures. They will continue to build on their land navigation and map reading skills. There will be a required two-hour lab each week in which skills learned are put into practical application. Skills gained during this year will help them in the Leadership Development and Assessment Course in Fort Lewis, WA.
Rank: MSL III Cadets will wear the rank of ether Cadet Staff Sergeant (C/SSG), Cadet Sergeant First Class (C/SFC), Cadet First Sergeant (C/1SG), or Cadet Second Lieutenant (C/2LT). They will get hands on experience in platoon level leadership and hold the position of either Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Leader, or First Sergeant. Cadets will be evaluated and mentored on their performance in these positions.
