Veterans of recent military service, and the dependents of certain other servicemen, may be entitled to educational assistance payments from the Veterans Administration. Reservists and members of the National Guard may also be eligible for monthly educational benefits.

We are seeking input from student veterans at Arkansas State University - Main Campus related to the annual G.I. Job’s survey of Military Friendly Schools. This survey is intended for student veterans in an effort to further enhance our services offered to this unique student community. The survey has no relevance to the school’s opinion or public opinion regarding the military, military policy or current military conflicts overseas.

The Folds of Honor Foundation (FHF) provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. Scholarships are to be used to subsidize the costs of tuition, school books, fees, room and board, special tools and equipment necessary for coursework, school-approved tutoring, and any other expense that the school in which the student is enrolled may deem appropriate and unmet. In three years, 1611 scholarships have been awarded.
FHF's unique post-secondary educational scholarships can be applied to schooling now or held by the Foundation on behalf of young children until needed at the time of enrollment. Scholarships are to be used to subsidize the costs of tuition, school books, fees, room and board, special tools and equipment necessary for coursework, school-approved tutoring, and any other expense that the school in which the student is enrolled may deem appropriate and unmet.
To be eligible, an applicant must be the spouse or dependent of: An active duty or Reserve Component soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, or Coast Guardsman killed or disabled in the Global War on Terror or other unique applications presented to and approved by the FHF board in writing on a case-by-case basis. Special consideration will be given to wounded soldiers with a Veterans Administration rating below 90%. An active duty or Reserve Component soldier, sailor, airman, Marine or Coast Guardsman who is currently classified as a POW or MIA. A veteran who died from any cause while such service-connected disability was in existence. A service member missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force. A service member forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power. A service member who received a Purple Heart Medal
The Folds of Honor Foundation awards scholarships based on satisfactory evidence the applicant qualifies within the above guidelines and completes the application.
FHF offers two types of scholarships:
Awarded to spouses and children of service members currently attending or recently accepted into a 4-year or 2-year degree program at an institution of higher education, or a vocational, technical or other certification program. Immediate-Use Scholarships are awarded on a year-to-year basis, and must be reapplied for each year.
The following documentation must be submitted with your scholarship application:
Proof of Disability due to military service (at least one of the following)
Casualty Feeder Report
M.E.B or P.E.B
Certificate of Retirement
VA Rating
Certificate of Death
Purple Heart
Proof of Military Service (i.e. DD 214 if applicable)
Proof of Dependency (i.e. birth certificate or marriage license)
Verification of School Enrollment (for Immediate-Use Applicants) (i.e. class schedule or acceptance letter)
Color photo of applicant with family and head-shot of applicant
Newspaper articles referencing service member etc. (Optional)
Reapplying scholarship applicants must be considered a student in good standing at their post-secondary educational institution and have received at least a 2.0 semester GPA during one of the two previous semesters. Applicants are not eligible for the award if they have 2 consecutive semesters below a 2.0 GPA.
The following documentation must be submitted with this application:
Transcript from the last college attended (may be a copy and does not have to be in a sealed envelope)
Proof of School Enrollment (i.e. class schedule or acceptance letter)
Personal Essay
Awarded to the young children of service members and invested by the FHF on their behalf. Eligible applicants are infants up to, and including, students enrolled in the eleventh grade. Scholarship funds are disbursed to the post-secondary educational institution at the time of enrollment.

The Military Times has just announced in their October publication "Edge" that ASU Jonesboro has been named one of the top ten schools in the nation for Veterans. The survey, sent to more than 4,000 colleges and universities, ranked Arkansas State University Jonesboro at #10 for services to veterans. These services included financial assistance, academic flexibility, campus culture, and support services. ASU Jonesboro was the only Arkansas school to be named in the top 100. Kathy Mathes in the Office of the Registrar is the school's VA Certifying Official.
