Welcome to University College! Whether you are a new first year student, transfer student or continuing student, University College has something for you. In University College, it is our mission to promote the academic success of all Arkansas State University undergraduate students through a supportive environment of community and academic services. University College provides instruction and other academic services that focus on student success. Let me briefly introduce you to what University College has to offer.

Wilson Advising Center: If you are still deciding on a major or just have a general advising question to ask, the Wilson Advising Center's academic advisors are eager to assist you. The Wilson Advising Center is the advising home for about 1,000 ASU students. In addition to assisting with academic advising of many first year students and beyond, the center provides academic support through its College Choices and Restart@state programs. The center is conveniently located between the parking garage and the Reng Student Services wing of the Student Union on Caraway Road.

First Year Studies: All new first year students (freshmen) will be involved in programming provided or supported by First Year Studies through the Making Connections course, ASU's First Year Seminar course. Making Connections is required for every first year student and may be major-based or general for students still deciding on a major. All sections of the course have a common core curriculum that assists student with making the transition from high school to college. As this transition will have some unexpected challenges, Making Connections will help you adjust to new friends and social interactions, new intellectual standards, and new responsibilities. Because making the appropriate decision can mean the difference in whether or not you succeed in college, Making Connections will help show you the way to sound decision making, time management, proven study techniques and other college success skills. First Year Studies is also the home for our transitional courses in writing, reading and mathematics.

Learning Support Services: Free tutoring and other academic support for many of the introductory and general education and core courses are provided by Learning Support Services. Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) is a specialized type of academic support that assists students in targeted high-risk courses such as mathematics, sciences and other disciplines. Additionally, the Learning Support Center offers free drop-in and appointment-based peer tutoring. The staff in the Learning Support Center are there to lend a hand to your academic success so take advantage of their assistance. The Learning Support Center is located on the lower floor of the library.

Academic Success Institute: The Academic Success Institute is new programming designed for a select group of first year students to jump start and strengthen their skills for college success. The program will assist students in becoming familiar with the campus, acquiring study skills for college courses and allow for the early completion of some required courses.

Student Athlete Academic Success Center: Academic coordinators and tutoring staff provide academic assistance for over 300 ASU student athletes through the services of the Charles F. Luter Academic Success Center.  Through close interaction with the student athletes, their academic advisors, other athletic and academic staff, the student athletes are kept on track for academic and team success. GO RED WOLVES!

TRiO Programs: University College is proud to host the federally funded TRiO programs of Student Support Services and Upward Bound. Student Support Services provides tutoring and other academic assistance free of charge to students who meet the federal SSS requirements. Upward Bound helps prepare high school students for the college experience through weekend and summer mentoring/tutoring programs.

I encourage you to take advantage of the many academic success programs and services provided by University College during your ASU experience. Remember...Your Success Begins Here!
