Welcome to the Arkansas State University School of Nursing website. Thank you for visiting our website and your interest in ASU and our nursing programs. Now is a great time to become a nurse. The career outlook for the profession is excellent with openings for practice in almost any location. Due to a shortage of nurses, there are many jobs in nursing and will continue to be in the future. Nurses work in hospitals, physician offices, clinics and home health and with many groups of people of all ages.
This website is designed to provide current information to prospective students, students, faculty and staff on programs and activities of the School of Nursing. Learn about the nursing programs, plans of study and admission requirements, print applications, and consult the nursing student handbooks. The websites for the ASU Chapter of the National Student Nurses Association, Eta Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International and Discover Nursing are linked to this website.
At the beginning of Fall 2009, Nursing’s clinical learning centers will be relocated to the new Donald W. Reynolds Center for Health Sciences building. Clinical learning centers include a general nursing center with ICU and maternity simulation rooms, a nurse anesthesia simulation laboratory and two health assessment learning laboratories. The expanded learning centers will offer students greater opportunities for learning before caring for actual people in a clinical setting. The faculty and students of the School of Nursing are extremely excited about the new building and the opportunities that will be available.
Multiple opportunities for entry into the nursing profession or for continuing your educational career in nursing are offered on the Jonesboro campus and at distant site campuses of ASU Mountain Home, ASU Beebe, and Mid-South Community College. The School of Nursing offers an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing (AASN), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a 2nd Degree BSN for entry to nursing practice as an RN. For LPNs, two options are available for obtaining the required education to be eligible for RN licensure, LPN-to-AASN or LPN-to-BSN. For RNs, an online program leads to a BSN. A variety of options are available for graduate nursing study including Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator and Nurse Anesthesia.
