Major/Minor Detail

English (BA)

Courses offered in English are designed to promote the effective use of oral and written
English; to encourage selective and interpretative reading; to increase the capacity to
understand and appreciate the classics, the humanities, and the fine arts; and to foster the
development of personal philosophies based upon time-tested truths.
It is assumed that any student enrolling in any literature class will be able to demonstrate
competent writing ability.

The program for students majoring in English is designed to afford a liberal education to
meet the needs of teacher certification; to create a humane basis for careers in business, in
the learned professions, or in government; and to prepare for graduate study.
