Major/Minor Detail

Credit Hours: must have completed the MBA foundation courses either at the graduate or undergraduate level

Overview

The MSISeC is designed to prepare students either for advanced positions in the information technology field or as preparation for entrance into a doctoral program in Information Systems. The 36 credit-hour program of study includes a 24 hour core that provides the student with in-depth coverage of the core components of today's IT field and incorporates a graduate statistics course. These components include Database, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Systems, Networking, and Systems Analysis. In addition, the student will take 6 hours of directed electives and will then elect either to complete a thesis or 6 additional hours of coursework.

Requirements

All general admission requirements of the Graduate School are applicable to the program, as are all admission requirements of the Master of Business Administration. These include the requirements for conditional and unconditional admission. In general, the minimum requirements consist of the following

  • Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75
  • GMAT score of 400
  • Formula score of 950 points, where the score is calculated as GMAT plus 200 time GPA

In addition, the applicant must have completed the MBA foundation courses either at the graduate or undergraduate level. Finally, the applicant must have completed an undergraduate database course and an undergraduate programming course or must demonstrate proficiency in these areas. Also recommended is an undergraduate course in either website development or electronic commerce. (Most students with undergraduate business degrees have met the business foundation requirements, and likely all students with MIS or related degrees have met all the preparation requirements.)
